There are some pretty lonely feelings in the world…

Being the new kid in class…

The first night in your own apartment…

The first day at your new job…

The first day of work for your new employee can be both exciting and intimidating at the same time.

There are ways that you can help eliminate the lonely and awkward beginnings that many people experience. A warm and well planned first day can make your newbie more comfortable, and in turn, make their adjustment period less painful…for everyone!

  1. Mingle with Management: Have management reach out to the new hire and schedule a time to have coffee prior to the employees start date. This gives an opportunity for the employee to get to know someone, and feel more welcome on the first day.
  2. Buddy System: Introduce the newbie to the team, more specifically, an individual that can introduce them to others and walk them through the work space as a personal guide.
  3. $100 Gift: Consider giving the new employee a gift card for them to spend on their desk. They will feel more welcome as they are able to shop for items that they like for the space they will work in.
  4. Tool Set: Provide the new employee with updated technology, nothing says welcome like a NEW MAC book! Providing updated technology, employees have the speed and processing they need to get the job done, with no delays.
